The Egyptians used them when moving pyramid blocks, seamen used them for handling lines, and more specifically, stagecoach drivers used them for handling the lines between their horses and the carriage. Therefore, when the first motor vehicles were invented, people had already become accustomed to wearing gloves when driving a vehicle. Also, steering wheels were often made from polished wood or ivory, making it either impossible to properly command a car, or at least very difficult, especially when sweating in warm weather or freezing in cold temperature.
