Although it has appeared in many different materials, shades and on several different lasts over the years, the Dover model made by the extremely renowned Edward Green & Co. Shoemakers of Northampton is so beautifully made, timeless and sophisticated that it doesn't seem to have any equals. Therefore, it is currently perhaps the most quintessential model in the top tier of English shoemaking.
It might not come across as a particularly blatant or one-of-a-kind sort of shoe, but several aspects make it unique in its sort. Most importantly, the apron stitch on the front upper is what sets it apart from the other Edward Green models, which are naturally crafted with expertise and meticulous attention as well. For the apron only, two hours of manual labour are required per pair of Dovers. The technique that is applied there is only mastered by a few very skilled craftsmen, therefore finding a similar pair from another maker is not likely. The combination with the split toe front, the five-eyelet derby style and the refined last shapes from Edward Green give it a perfect balance.
In order to surprise our customers with something unique and hardly seen before, we decided to stock the Dover on the 82 last, instead of the 606 last that it is commonly built on. For the upper, we settled for nothing less than Edward Green's magnificent dark oak calf. To top things off, figuratively speaking, the shoe is outfitted with a smooth but firm rubber sole, that has an appearance as elegant as the leather alternative.
