A recap of the Heschung Trunk Show at Shoes & Shirts

On the 17th, 18th and 19th of November of this year, the people of Heschung gladdened us with their presence at our stores in Maastricht. This so-called Trunk Show was a unique opportunity for attending customers and our staff to experience the construction methods of their footwear, and to order unique pairs of initialised boots. Every once in a while, we organise an event where one of our many esteemed makers visit our brick-and-mortar store in Maastricht. We call it a Trunk Show. Given the fact that the makers we work with are established companies that make very specialised products on a relatively small scale, the people that come to us to represent their product are often very involved with their merchandise. Regularly, we welcome family members of the original owners, who have learned the tricks of the trade from their ancestors. Not only are they able to provide ample explanation about their product, they can communicate their brand's philosophy and founding history like no other.

This weekend, on the 17th, 18th and 19th of november, we were pleased to welcome Isabelle and Christoph from Ateliers Heschung of the Alsace region in France; a family owned business since their founding in 1934. Originally, their specialty was the manufacturing of outdoor boots, but also leather ski boots. During the Trunk Show, we were told that during the Olympics of 1968 in Grenoble and 1972 in Sapporo, many gold medals were won by the French Ski Team on their leather boots. And as said, they were and are currently still specialised in footwear that is suitable for outdoor use. The detail we spot on the soles of all their models, a relief pressed in the rubber in the shape of a duck and a fish, refers to the fact that the boots were often used for hunting.

During this weekend, we got a chance to spot some models that we do not yet carry in our collection, and customers had the chance to pick their favourite leather upper colours and combine them with a suede, canvas or felt detail on the ankle part of the quintessential Ginkgo-boot. Also, a complete explanation and display of the assembling of this boot, from upper leather pressing to the finished product, were shown. Over all, this was a visit to remember, and a nice experience for our valued customers. We would like to once again thank Isabelle and Christoph for their presence, their delightful explanation and story-telling!

We look forward to organising a new Trunk Show in collaboration with one of our shoemakers. If you subscribe to our NEWSLETTER, you will be put up to height of these unique events.
