After three years of working at the Packard & Co. shoemaker in Wilton, Maine, George Henry Bass become the owner of the company and decided to rename it G.H. Bass & Co. After producing several specific-style moccasin shoes with remarkable names, like the Woc-O-Moc and the Sportocasin. Only in 1936 did they start producing their model that is by far the most famous and succesful.

During the turn of the century, many English hunters and sportsmen used to visit Norway to fish for salmon. During their travels, they discovered a style of local slip-on footwear, that they continued wearing on their other journeys, especially in their leisure. Esquire men's magazine wrote about this new footwear trend, and shortly after, G.H. Bass were commissioned to produce these so-called 'NorWeejuns'.

This style became particularly popular at Ivy League colleges and other high society circles, and the Weejuns also turned out to be the preffered footwear for Michael Jackson's moonwalks. As of today, the Weejun represents a classic but timeless look, not in the least for women.
