Albert Thurston military braces

The very renowned brace makers at Albert Thurston have supplied us with some special military braces; they feature elasticity throughout and the back part is significantly shorter. This is because during World War II, where British soldiers were outfitted with these braces, people wore their pants with a high raise. This is the perfect finish for a classic ensemble!

"Necessity is the mother of invention."

This proverb is applicable to many wardrobe developments, and especially during times of war, some well-known garments of today made their first appearances. Chino cloth for example was invented to be simple, durable and comfortable for soldiers, and the original khaki colour worked great as camouflage. The same counts for the trench coat, which was a light-wearing alternative for a heavy officer's coat in the trenches of the First World War.

Although our store has only just begin stocking the Albert Thurston military braces, this style finds its origin in the Second World War. You'll notice the short back part, a detail that refers to those days, when men used to wear their trousers with a higher waist. As opposed to the rest of our collection of braces that are all non-elastic except for the back parts, these ones are fully elastic, although in a slightly more rigid way. Otherwise, the fabric would get stretched after intensive wearing.

These braces were formerly produced in colours on which dirt would not contrast too much, and as a reference to this, we have decided to offer them in a khaki-green shade. The elongated leather loops give a feel of true authenticity to top it off. This will match seemlessly with classic tailoring!
